Beginner's Guide: Basic Operations and Survival Defense
Haunted Dorm is a tower-defense survival game built around the loop:
Pick a room β Sleep to earn coins β Build towers/economy β Repel ghost attacks β Survive until dawn.
This guide starts from core mechanics and gives new players the most stable opening path.
ποΈ 1. Room selection (the most important opening decision)
Your room affects how often you're attacked and how you place buildings later.
Principles:
-
Prioritize rooms with only 1 entry (a single door)
Ghosts mainly attack from the door; fewer entries = easier to defend. -
Avoid rooms too close to main corridors or corners
Ghost patrols pass more often, increasing the chance of being targeted. -
Room size doesn't affect income, but it affects tower placement
Most rooms can place about 4β7 buildings.
π΄ 2. Sleep and coin income
- You earn coins per second while sleeping (income speed can be increased by buildings)
- When awake you can build and upgrade freely
- If your βsleep barβ hits zero from attacks, you fail
ποΈ 3. Early build priority (recommended path)
Recommended order:
- Power/income buildings (increase income)
- Reinforce the door (door HP is critical)
- Basic defense towers (Pillow Cannon)
- Add as needed by difficulty: Slow Tower, Lightning Tower, Radar, etc.
πͺ 4. Economy development
Early economy determines whether you can withstand late pressure.
Stable economy path (recommended for 90% of new players)
- Build 2β3 economy buildings first
- Start upgrading defenses mid-game
- This path ensures you can afford high-tier defenses later
Rush survival path (for high-pressure maps)
- First reinforce the door and build 1β2 cannons
- Prevent getting deleted early
- Add economy in mid-to-late game
π‘οΈ 5. Tower summary
- Pillow Cannon: basic DPS with excellent value
- Slow Tower: key to delaying Dream Hunter advances
- Lightning Tower: better vs single tough enemies
- Radar: increases range team-wide (exists in some versions)
π» 6. Avoiding fast breaches
Ghosts will keep knocking and ramp up attacks. Tips:
- Upgrade the door to mid strength (at least 2β3 reinforcements)
- Don't place all towers on one side, avoid being wiped by AoE skills
- Build an economy + defense parallel system as early as possible
π§ 7. Common rookie mistakes
- Greeding economy too early (dying to early knocks)
- Never upgrading the door (fatal)
- Clumping towers together (easy AoE wipe)
π― Closing
With a good room, steady economy, and timely door upgrades, your survival-to-dawn rate will be very high.
This is the most stable, recommended beginner path in the current version.
